Medicor: Targeted Immune Dysregulation

Medicor is an agonistic monoclonal antibody targeting the receptor for TL1A, known as TNFR25. Binding of Medicor to its receptor leads to the activation of the receptor, and mimics the binding of TL1A. The effects of treatment with Medicor are in many ways the opposite of those following treatment with Inhibicor, and the net effect is activation of certain immune responses. When would this be useful? It is now well known that for many cancers and chronic viral infections, the reason that our bodies cannot get rid of them on their own is because the virus or cancer has learned to block an immune response that would otherwise destroy it. By activating either an existing immune response or amplifying one that is being stimulated with HeatShock, Medicor is a powerful therapy to maximize the effects of many immunotherapeutics.

In preclinical studies, combination therapy with Medicor increases the ability of HeatShock to eliminate established tumors several fold. The mechanism behind this synergy relates to the ability of Medicor to shut-down an important population of regulatory cells in our immune systems. Heat is aggressively pursuing the preclinical development of Medicor, and it is anticipated that trials testing the use of Medicor with FDA approved anti-cancer immunotherapeutics will begin within 24 months.
